Meet Felix

Boston City Councilor At-Large
Candidate for Boston Mayor

Bringing over a decade of experience in community organizing and public service, City Councilor At-Large Felix G. Arroyo is running for Mayor of Boston with a vision of Boston where everyone has opportunities to succeed.

Felix is a son of Boston, born in the South End, raised in Hyde Park, and a proud graduate of the Boston Public Schools. He now lives with his wife Jasmine, a Boston Public School teacher, in Jamaica Plain.

It is because of his roots as a community organizer that he has remained committed to “collaborative politics” – bringing people together so that everyone’s voice is heard. Utilizing this method as a City Councilor, Felix has been able to move an aggressive agenda focused on a stronger economy, quality schools, safe neighborhoods, and healthy communities.

To help boost the local economy, Felix has developed legislation called “Invest in Boston” to invest Boston’s money in banks that invest in Boston. As the Boston Phoenix explained, “In this punishing economic environment, Invest in Boston would not only help create jobs and promote growth — if used properly, it could help reduce housing foreclosures and promote lending to qualified home buyers.”

Understanding the importance of investing in youth from volunteering as a youth sports coach, Felix fought to save thousands of youth summer jobs in the city’s budget and also led the effort to prevent the closures of libraries.

Felix is the son of Felix D. Arroyo, a former Boston City Councilor, and Elsa, a retired Boston Public School teacher.

Felix did his undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston and earned a master’s degree in community economic development from Southern New Hampshire University.
